Writing with a Sense of Adventure

We've all been told that we need to use all five senses to bring our fiction to life. Sight, sound, smell, taste and touch all need to be invoked. But there's one other sense that also needs to be used: the sense of adventure.

Just bringing your work to life is not enough. Accountants and insurance salesmen are alive, but how many people want to cozy up to them and talk shop for hours at a time? Writing with a sense of adventure will give your work an added spark of excitement that will make people rush to lose themselves in your pages for the hours it takes to finish the book.

So, how does one write with a sense of adventure?

Webster's defines "adventure" as:
1 a : an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks
b : the encountering of risks (the spirit of adventure)
2 : an exciting or remarkable experience (an adventure in exotic dining)
3 : an enterprise involving financial risk

Check out definition #3. How many of us write "safe" books because we think they'll be easier to sell? But even if you know in advance every element that you'll use in a book -- say, if you're writing The Amnesiac Cowboy's Secret Baby -- you can write about those elements with a sense of adventure.

The way to do that is by utilizing definition #2. Turn everything, no matter how prosaic, into an exciting and remarkable experience by using telling details. Turn your descriptions into wild safaris to bring back the perfect image of something, seen "in the wild" in a way the reader doesn't expect. For example, in my book, DARK SALVATION, Rebecca, the reporter, sneaks into one of the abandoned labs during her tour of the secret research facility. She has only a moment to look around before the lights go out, but in that time she sees: A rough wooden table with brightly painted drawers filled the center of the tiny room. Narrow counters and desk spaces ran around the walls, with shrouded laboratory equipment stored neatly for their next use.

What caught her eye? The fact that in this industrial research complex, where everything is white and gray, the drawers of the table are painted in bright colors. Are they color-coded? Are the scientists allowed more freedom than expected? Or is it, as she suspects, a prop, purchased from someplace that no longer needed it, and never used? The same with the lab equipment. It's covered up, so how can she be sure of what it really is?

A short time later, she enters one of the labs that is in use: A young man in a wrinkled white lab coat sat at the counter, hunched over a microscope that was far more complex than the simple magnifiers she remembered from high school biology. A scattering of Twinkie wrappers surrounded him, perfuming the room with the odor of preserved sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, but a welcome change from the antiseptic air of the hallways. He must have heard the buzzing of the scanner, because he lifted one hand and made vague shushing motions at the door.

What catches her attention now? First, she's checking the new facts against the old -- the cover is off and she can see what the machinery really is. But what's it really being used for? And, she notices the smell, as well as that it's covering up another smell/taste. What else is being covered up?

See how the descriptions are short, but full of telling details that give a sense of adventure? And, just to get back to the other five senses, see how they're worked in? (At least, sight, sound, smell and taste are. Touch is sort of implied in the "rough" table)

Last, let's look at definition #1. How can writing involve danger and unknown risks? One way is to use techniques you've never used before. For example, write a book using a single point of view. The other way, which is actually more dangerous and risky, is to plumb deeper within yourself for the emotion that makes it to the page. Don't just write a scene -- live it. Feel not only what happens and how that affects the characters, but what it means. Then, (#1b) encounter those risks, don't avoid them. When you get to the hard parts, when you're tempted to take the easy out and find the simple resolution, push through and go for the solution that feels like it's tearing your soul out. Your triumph will show on the page, and the readers will feel it.

Last year my partner and I tried a home exchange holiday in Denver Colorado and it was the best. We were living in a superb neighbourhood and enjoyed the community and the shopping. We were also able to afford to go on a weeks trip to Utah and Arizona which had we have had to pay for car hire and hotels for the whole duration of the holiday we would not have been able to afford. We are now planning our next home exchange holiday and hope to visit Australia.

There are lots of people who say "I don't like the idea of strangers living in my house whilst I am not there", but don't forget you are living in their house and by the time the holiday date comes around you have e-mailed them and phoned them so they feel like friends. Perhaps you have a second vacation home which could work just as well for the exchange. If you have got a second vacation home and you rent it out for part of the year then you can advertise the house on www.homeisaway.com free of charge.

Calling All Angels - Talking to Angels

I am a big believer in the strength of a personal prayer. However, some of you have asked for a formal guide about how to call to the Archangels. (See the archives ? Your Guide To the Archangels for more information!) This guide below is for those of you who prefer to follow a structured format. This Universal Prayer To The Angels can be used to address any of the seven archangels. It is based loosely on Elizabeth Claire Prophet's prayer structure, that I have personally found to be extremely effective.

It is ok to follow the structure below and write your prayer down and read it. It is also good to read your prayer out loud if you choose to use this more formal method.

First of all clear your mind. Try to be relaxed as possible.

Light a candle that is appropriate. This is optional and I have included more about using candles as a prayer aid in the next section.

First you call all the angels?

In the name of (insert one of the following ? the one that feels best to you)

The God (or Goddess) That is Within Me
The Divine Imagination
My Higher Power
The Great Being of Light
The I Am That I Am

I call to all the seven archangels and their legions of light. I ask that all Seven Rays bless me with their divine guidance.

Then you call the specific angel:

I call on the Archangel ______ (choose the appropriate Archangel) and his legions of light.

For the purposes of this exercise we are going to use the Archangel Michael.

I ask for your ____ (fill in blank).

In Michael's case you would say, "I ask for your protection."

Then you make general requests that address the overall nature of the issues that replace all negatives with positive. For example, using the Archangel Michael:

I ask the angels for protection against losing my car and my job. I ask the angels to be free of anxiety and filled with emotional security. I ask that you replace my lack of confidence with the ability to stand up for myself. I ask that all doubts about the future be replaced with faith that no matter what happens, all will be well.

At this point in the prayer you may also visualize the chakra that is associated with the Angel. Michael is related to the fourth chakra of self-expression so you may want to visualize this area as a glowing brilliant blue. If this is too much for you to handle at first, just concentrate on getting the words right.

Then you make a specific request:

I ask the angels to ____ (fill in the blank.) This is where you describe specific situations that you would like fixed. For example: I ask the angels to please resolve the problem at work and protect me from job loss. I ask the angels to please help me find the money to fix the brakes on my car so I don't have an accident.

Then explain to the angels why YOU think the fulfillment of your request would be good for all.

I ask that this be done ___ (explain why). Example: I ask that his be done because it would be bad news for everyone if I lost my job right now. I ask that my brakes be fixed as I can't get to work without the car and I do need to go to work!

Then you ask for more general qualities associated with the angel. Name anything that comes to mind that is associated with this angel and things WILL come to mind. Wish for improvements in the entire world.

I ask that ___.

Example for Michael:

I ask that all people in the world be kept safe from spiritual and physical danger. I ask that all be in receipt of divine protection. I ask that all be protected from violence, war, and all aggression. I ask that there be no more war.

Then you ask that all people in the same need that you are on the planet be granted the same wish.

I ask that my prayer be multiplied and sent out to help all of those who are in need of ___ (insert general quality here, in Michael's case it would be protection) on the planet.

Example

I ask that my prayer be multiplied and sent out to help all of those who are in need of protection on the planet.

Then express gratitude.

I thank you for all of ________(insert appropriate qualities) you have shown me so far in my life. I am truly grateful for _______. (Name some examples where you feel you have been protected before.)

Example for Michael

I thank you for all of the protection that you have shown me so far in life. I am truly grateful for not being laid off last month when the company was in financial trouble and being protected from the gossip of the lady next door.

Then you ask that the request be fulfilled quickly:

I ask that this be done, helping all and harming none. I ask that my request be filled in this hour in full power according to the will of _____. (Insert appropriate name here ? God, The I AM THAT I AM, The Divine Imagination, The Great Being of Light.)

Then say Amen, or Thank You.

You may also follow this prayer with a psalm or a favorite inspirational poem. Read it three to fifteen times.

The candle burning colors for each of the Archangels at a glance are:

Michael ? blue or white (protection)
Gabriel ? white, yellow or gold (guidance)
Chamuel ? pink or red (love)
Uriel ? gold, silver, purple or red (peace)
Raphael ? green (healing)
Jophiel ? yellow or gold (illumination)
Zadkiel ? purple or violet (joy)

Warming Up To Cold Calls

Will you do just about anything, including sending out hundreds of letters, to avoid making cold calls to your potential customers/prospects? If so, you're not alone. Millions like you have started their own businesses, only to find that the thought of making calls to potential customers/prospects leaves them paralyzed with anxiety. Believe me I was one of them. For those of you who know us and have read "Who Makes It Happen", remember what I used to go through before I would get on the telephone to cold call.

However, as an business owner/entrepreneur, the telephone is one of the single most important tools at your command. The key to getting over your hesitation is to stop thinking about your call as a sales pitch, and instead begin practicing "consultative selling." This means uncovering and filling needs in a friendly, supportive way. For those in lease purchase this is very conducive. We are helping buyers and sellers.

So for those of you in other types of businesses, before you ever pick up the telephone to contact a potential customer/prospect, ask yourself, "What does my potential customer/prospect need from me, and what does my company have to offer that will help this potential customer/prospect get what he wants?" Then set a goal for your call that will move the potential customer/prospect closer to a buying decision, such as gaining an appointment or preparing a price quote.

According to business owners/entrepreneurs in all types of businesses, one of the biggest reasons they hesitate to prospect by telephone is they're unsure of what they should say at the outset. A short, three-part opener, including an introduction of yourself and your company and an opening benefit is the best way to start.

When introducing your company, be sure you can describe what you do in just a short phrase: "This is Susan DeFiore, of DeFiore Enterprises. We are lease purchase consultants." Now mention the benefit: "We can move your home in 30 days or less with the lease purchase advantage." By stating your benefit clearly in your opener, you give the person a good reason to listen further.

Effective telephone contact is made up of two components: Asking good questions and listening carefully to the answers. Ask questions to qualify prospects and overcome objections. Again, for those of us in lease purchasing, we use our telephone script to obtain all the information we need.

There are two types of questions: closed-ended and open-ended. Closed-ended questions are fact-finders. They can be answered with a fact, a "yes" or a "no". An example of a closed-ended question is: "Would Lease Purchasing work for you?"

Open-ended questions are used to draw someone into a conversation. They reveal the emotion behind the facts. "What do you like best about your home?" is an example of an open-ended question.

So plan in advance the types of questions you'll ask prospects. Do this even before you get on the telephone. If you can, practice on friends or family. Get their input. Then be sure to record your information in a "call report" for future use. Your call report should include the prospect's contact data, answers to important questions and details on the steps you plan to take.

If you find out your potential customer/prospect is already using one of your competitors, rather than hanging up or ending the conversation realize that this indicates to you this individual is a qualified potential customer/prospect. They are already using this type of service. At this point you need to point out to the potential customer/prospect the benefits of working with you, and how you will make the switch worthwhile.

Let's say the seller is with a Realtor. Suppose you could still have your home listed, while we find a tenant/buyer for your home.

After your potential customer/prospect has answered your questions, it's time to close. You've asked good questions, listened carefully and provided benefit-oriented information. Now ask for what you want. In lease purchasing, "When can we set up a meeting so we can start the lease purchase process?"

If you can't meet your original goal, state what you will do, such as send the prospect more information and keep in touch. Then be sure to follow through. If the individual doesn't want to do a lease purchase, send out your follow up information.

Relax and follow these steps. With a little bit of practice, you'll find the telephone to be a powerful ally in building your new business.

Writing A Press Release

News releases (also called press releases) are an important part of a public relations campaign. They are also an important part of marketing your business. They are the primary means of "selling" your story to the media. All press releases are structured the same way. Make sure you
answer "yes" to these key questions when writing your next press release:

Is it easy to read?

Editors look at hundreds of press releases every day, and if your news release is difficult to read, they will throw it out. It should be on plain white paper and printed in black ink. The main body of the release should be double-spaced and have at least a one inch margin all around the edges.

Your letterhead should appear at the top of the first page to establish your identity.

Have you double-checked your spelling and grammar?

A good press release has no typographical or grammatical errors. If yours contains such errors you'll lose credibility; it will have the same effect as a badly written business letter or resume. The release should be typed. Print out (or type out) a fresh copy for each person to whom you will send it. Do not send out poor-quality photocopies with dark staple marks or blotches.

Did you include the six news elements?

Because all news articles include six basic elements-who, what, when, where, why, and how - your press release should also follow the same guidelines. Put the most important facts in the lead paragraph, with the facts decreasing in importance as you go down the page. Why? Suppose you send a press release to an editor who has five inches of space open in the newspaper and your release runs eight inches long. Ideally, the editor would trim your press release from the bottom. Therefore, to make sure the most important information gets run, put the less important information at the bottom.

Did you include a contact source?

In the top, right-hand corner of the first page, directly beneath your company name, there should be a line that states, "For further information, contact." A name and telephone number should follow. The editor must have somebody in your business to call to answer questions or to be interviewed about your news item. If you can only be reached during certain hours, specify them.

Have you included a dateline?

The best press releases have a dateline with the city in which the business is based and the date the release is written. Every press release needs a dateline so that the editor can tell when it was mailed. Nobody wants to cover an old story that has lost its timeliness.

The other morning during my favorite radio talk show they mentioned this guy who wrote a book about selling water beds which was coming out next week. How you do think this guy got the radio stations to talk about this....you got it - a press release or a publicist who sent a press release.

The Secrets To Improving Childrens Behaviour

Most parents at some stage are driven to distraction by one or more of their children's annoying habits or behaviours, whether it is a toddler who continually whines, a school-aged child who leaves clothes lying around or a teenager who uses a less than pleasant vocabulary.

How to affect change is a challenge for many parents. Do you ignore a child's annoying behaviour or do you pick up on it? A useful rule of thumb is to pick up on behaviours that are dangerous to the child himself or significantly infringe on the rights and comfort of others.

Also ask yourself: Is this behaviour reasonable for the child's age? For instance, it is reasonable to expect an eight year old not to disturb you while you are on the phone for twenty minutes but it is not reasonable to expect the same of a two year old.

It is also useful to take into account the child's current state of mind and what is going in on their lives that may be related to some unusual behaviour to occur at home.

The following four principles for changing your child's behaviour will be effective if you are both patient and persistent.

Principle one: Change your initial response first. This is important because children's behaviour generally requires a pay-off, which may be your attention or an attempt to defeat you. The most important principle about changing children's behaviour is to change your own behaviour first. So if your child' whines (a child's version of water torture) to get his own way refrain from answering back or giving in.

Principle two: Practise with your child the behaviour that you want. The notion of behaviour rehearsal is fundamental to learning a new behaviour. Don't just tell kids what you expect, get them to practise the behaviour you want. In the example of a young whiner - get him to practise asking for help or a treat in a normal voice.

Principle three: Minimise the behaviour you don't want. That means when children continue their old behaviour despite your brilliant suggestions ignore it, sidestep it or implement a consequence but don't nag or harp on it. Remember it takes time often to change a behaviour, particularly if it has been happening for a long time.

Principle four: Spotlight the appropriate behaviour. When your children behave in the desired way show your sincere appreciation. We often take children for granted or rather we are trained to give children no attention when they are good, but plenty when they are less than perfect. The behaviours we focus on expand so we need to focus our attention on desirable behaviours more than on the negative behaviours. For our young whiner it is essential to make a fuss when he uses a normal voice to get what he wants.

Like any process it will only work if you stick to it and follow it through. And don't be afraid to adapt it to suit your circumstances. Remember, it is the fact that you have a plan rather than the nature of the plan that is most powerful in achieving a change in your children's behaviour.

The Trouble with Tranqs

There's a whole group of drugs out there called benzodiazepines. They are tranquillisers, or sedatives. They include such well-known names as Valium (diazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), Librium (chlordiazepoxide), Tranxene (clorazepate), Paxipam (halazepam), Centrax or Verstran (prazepam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Dalmane (flurazepam), Serax (oxazepam), Restoril (temazepam), Xanax (alprazolam), and Halcion (triazolam). Drugs like Librium and Valium have been around for a while, others such as Xanax are relative newcomers. Interestingly, whenever it appears, the newcomer is always hailed as a wonder drug as it becomes available for prescrption, until, 10 or 20 years later, the problems start to appear with those who were the first to be 'saved' from their pain by this miracle of pharmacological engineering.

But when the mind is filled with anxious thoughts; the world is a scary place; and coping is a dream so far away it's just a fantasy, these wonderful drugs are a lifeline to be grabbed with all of our might and they can indeed create a window of respite, a breather, a little calm that allows the troubled mind to struggle on and cope in a lesser version of Hell than without the drugs.

Peter Breggin, in Toxic Psychiatry, writes of 100,000,000 prescriptions a year, in the US alone, for benzodiazepines, at a conservative estimate costing $500,000,000. They are clearly popular with doctors, but considering the long-term detrimental effects, and the ease with which short-term use can turn to addiction I am puzzled as to why they seem to be the first response to people who are clearly lost in their own minds and most of whom just need re-assurance first, with direction, support, and guidance following on.

These drugs have a clinically similar effect to alcohol on the central nervous system, and long term use can have quite a severe impact on brain tissue, in much the way alcohol does. But the real problem with these drugs is their addictiveness, and the difficulty in stopping taking them after even a relatively short period of use. Some of these distressing withdrawal symptoms that may be experienced are: anger, anxiety, bowel changes, lack of concentration, emotional disturbance, depression, coordination difficulties, vertigo, sensitivity to light, head pressure, muscle and joint pain, numbness, paranoia, agitation, shaking, insomnia, and feelings of unreality or dissociation.

So what's the alternative?

The alternative is not a bigger, better, more modern, more focused drug. The alternative is the realisation by the medical world, and by sufferers from anxiety, that these drugs don't change anything. They just disconnect you from it. Whatever it is that's causing the anxiety, it's still there when the drug is eventually stopped. Postponing facing up to it for 3 months, a year, 10 years, 20 years? still leaves the problem sitting there, and it will wait for as long as is necessary because it is a part of the mind, a part of the belief system, a part of the upbringing, a part of the self. All the drugs do is numb the mind, wrap it in cotton wool so thinking is fuzzier, but they leave the problem sitting there waiting for the day the drug is removed. There is simply no escape through drugs.

The trouble is we've all become so used to the idea of the easy option, the effortless solution ? magic is what we want. What we don't want is to have to look at what we don't want to look at because every time we look we get the anxiety response that we're trying to escape from in the first place.

There is only one solution.

That solution is for the sufferer to decide that they are going to be free of the problem, and that their life is no longer going to be controlled by their anxiety.

Without a commitment at that level, nothing will work long-term.

Once that commitment is made, then it is up to the sufferer to allow themselves to be guided (by what feels right to them) towards the help and assistance they require. This may be therapy in one of its many forms, counselling, cognitive therapy, psychotherapy, Gestalt, behavioural therapy, hypnotherapy?; or the avid reading of self-help books that appeal, attending therapy/self-help groups, attending workshops, visiting a spiritual healer?

What is important is that the sufferer feels heard and honoured and supported, not so much what the flavour of the month is in therapy. They all work. They all have an impact, as long as the match between the sufferer's mind, the style of therapy, and the personality of the therapist/facilitator, are a comfortable fit.

There is no suggestion here that anyone taking tranquillisers should stop taking them without consulting their physician. Many of these drugs require a gradual reduction in dose ? a weaning, because of the effects they have on the brain. Sudden removal can produce worse or similar symptoms to those that the drug was being prescribed for in the first place.

What I am suggesting is that alternatives are seriously considered, and that it is possible to lead a life free of the need of the tranquillising crutch that prevents the sufferer from ever experiencing the fullness and wonder of self in all it's creative and successful glory.

Become A Smarter Borrower

With a nation that has in the region of a Trillion pounds of debt one could say we are serial borrowers. Before you consider borrowing money it is wise to consider a few important points.

? Shop around for the best deal

This may sound like a no brainer but many people still use their high street bank to borrow money. These are usually the most expensive and with the Internet you can spend 30 minutes in your home finding the best deal.

? Make sure you understand the APR

Although the lender will outline the APR charges this may not be the actual amount you will be paying. Make sure you get the true cost of your loan.

? Keep the repayment period as short as possible

The longer you take to pay off your loan the more expensive it gets. Try and limit the repayment period to less than 5 years. For example, a ?5,000 loan borrowed over five years at an interest rate of 9% will cost you ?103 each month, this may sound affordable. But overall, it will cost you ?6,176 - ?1,176 in interest. If you borrowed it over three years, your monthly payments would be ?158 an increase of 53% in payments however you would only be paying back ?5,694, which is substantially less.

? Make sure you read the fine print

Lenders make a fortune in charging their customers payment protection. There are usually several conditions attached to this kind of protection so make ensure that you get the protection you want should you not be able to keep up the payments. There are usually redemption penalties if you pay your loan off early so make sure you are aware of these charges before hand.

? Avoid Secured loans if possible.

Loans of this type are commonplace in the UK are commonplace following the increased equity value arising from the house price boom of recent years. It is only advisable to release equity if you are going to be adding value to you home. If you fail to keep up payments you can be at risk of losing your home. This again will be mentioned in the fine print, although you should be aware of this.

There are hundreds of loan companies in the UK at the moment. With our low interest rates it has been quite affordable to borrow money. This is one of the reasons we are a nation in the grip of a debt epidemic at the moment. If you can reduce your interest payments then take action now.

If you have between 6 ? 9 months left to pay on your loan you could transfer this balance to a 0% balance transfer credit card. You can then pay this balance off from your new credit card at no cost over the 6 or 9 month period depending on what the introductory rate is.

Do your homework there is more than enough information and loan comparison websites to make sure you make the right choice when it comes to taking out that loan.

Are You Afraid of Change?

Change, no matter how you cut it, can certainly be a daunting task. There are so many ways to change; your image, attitude, environment, perceptions, addictions, and how you treat others.

However, let's explore the reasons for change. Firstly, aspects in your life that negatively affect self progression, whether put upon yourself or not, scream loudest to be changed.

Many times the guarded vaults inside ourselves mask this need for change, due to false pride, or the mere misperception of how change can improve our quality of life. As a result, a vicious cycle of negativity will hover if these changes fail to be made.

So then, how do we know when to prioritize a needful change so that it can be properly made?

No matter how blind one can get, signs from friends and family, or negative reactions to your conduct by others can definitely be the most telling, and that's where you would start.

This recognition is a crucial beginning point, because if you can't recognize and then admit, then you will always be in denial of your infractions.

For example: If you are a drug addict or any type of addict for that matter, the only way you are going to get clean of that chemical is not by force from the state or your family, but from within.

This introspection, though through a haze of chemicals or denial is tough, cannot be overstated in its importance. Although, when done with logic and perspective, it can be utterly empowering.

How does someone muster up enough will to make a critical change?

Despite what everyone else will think, whether bad or good; knowing yourself through introspection is indeed the best route with which to take, and will nullify all those external forces.

This, in part, is where your power to make that change will be generated. Instead of worrying how others will perceive you in your plights, simply put, ...don't!

Trusting yourself above everything else is fundamentally how change can start to be implemented. In addition, when a change for the better has been made, subsequent changes can and will be made more smoothly with less internal conflict.

Understanding the power of your own mind and how it can heal itself when given a chance is what I hope people can take from this article.

You do not have to be afraid of change!

Positive changes in life should always be sought out, and dispelling your fears through self trust can arguably become your best ally in making your next change.

Diamond Stud Earrings: Elegant Unisexuality

A diamond stud earring is made up of just one perfectly cut diamond, set in fine gold or silver. The simplicity of the design itself is its own selling point: anything fancier and you could easily fall into the trap of over-accessorizing. A single-stone earring is singled out for its sophisticated look.

A diamond is 58 times harder than the next hardest mineral on earth, corundum, the stuff from which rubies and sapphires are formed. Only diamonds can cut other diamonds. Ironically, diamonds are also brittle. If you hit one hard with a hammer, it will shatter. If it is placed in an oven and heated to about 763 degrees Celsius (1405 degrees Fahrenheit), it will simply vanish, releasing only a little carbon dioxide and NO visible traces whatsoever.

Contrary to popular perception, diamond stud earrings are not just for women! There are quite a few male celebrities who have popularized the use of ear accessories -- Johnny Depp being among the more famous of them. Respected artists like Usher and Kanye West have taken to sporting diamond earrings. Morgan Freeman wore a diamond earring to a roundtable discussion of his movie "The Sum of All Fears" in Washington DC in May 2002.

If stud earrings ever looked elegant on a woman, ironically enough they fantastically boost the macho appeal of the men who wear them. The purity of the stone, the value of the stud, all speak highly of the man's discerning taste, his eye for refinement. After all, uncouth bad boy-types aren't the only virile types in the world -- the snazzy, clean-cut James Bond figure has also been universally identified as irresistibly macho.

The virtue of the diamond stud earring lies in its unisex appeal. Both men and women have the privilege of accessorizing, and a single diamond stud is sometimes more than enough to set off their own personal styles. A simple diamond stud earring is timeless, and appropriately goes with the saying "Fashion fades. Style is eternal."

Do you Know the Benefits of Checking your Credit Report?

Do you know why you should check your credit report?

Of course you do, because you have undoubtedly experienced one working in your life!

No matter where you roam, your credit report follows you through life, updating all aspects of your life: your employment, where you live, your opened credit accounts, your closed accounts, your payment history, and even public records on you.

In this country, a good credit history brings you benefits of all kinds--a home mortgage, an apartment lease, an auto loan, or even more credit--with ease.

Like a job resume, your credit file carries a lot of weight, that's why you need to keep an eye on what it says about you.

Many options are cut off to you if you do not look "credit worthy" on paper. A bad report can mean higher rates on loans and insurance. It can also mean whether you get hired or promoted by a growing number of employers who now use them in the evaluation process.

Even if you think you have a good credit standing and you pay your bills on time, you still need to review your credit file for accuracy.

Studies have shown that credit files have an error rate as high as 70%, often the result of simple human or computer error.

Sometimes these errors show you being late in paying your bills when you are not. Your file might even leave out information that could sway a decision in your favor. The most common error is where damaging information of another person, with a similar name or account number, is mixed into your profile.

Monitor your personal credit file so that you are alerted whenever negative or derogatory items are reported against you.

A neglected credit file can lead to some major inconveniences in your life in the future.

You should fix mistakes or remove any incorrect information as soon as you find it. Errors that creep onto your report take time to correct. Catching these mistakes when they occur helps resolve them faster.

When you improve your credit worthiness you can qualify for better rates - which adds up to big savings for you.

Even if you think you have an unblemished past, checking your report lets you know what a future lender or employer will learn about you.

If your credit report is less than perfect now, you can deal with lingering problems effectively, and move towards a better credit standing in the future.

A good credit rating means more money in your pocket and less out the door!
